Paris Photo 2024 | Booth D39
Joel Daniel Phillips + Stephanie Syjuco
Catharine Clark Gallery returns to Paris Photo with a two-artist presentation of work by Stephanie Syjuco and Joel Daniel Phillips, Booth D39 at the Grand Palais, November 7 - 10, 2024.
Phillips and Syjuco will both be in attendance to meet collectors and to sign copies of their respective monographs, Killing the Negative: A Conversation in Art & Verse and The Unruly Archive, on Thursday, November 7 at 1pm and 3pm, respectively.
Stephanie Syjuco (American, b. 1974 – Manilla, Philippines) and Joel Daniel Phillips (American, b. 1989 – Seattle, Washington) create artworks that delve into history, leveraging diverse mediums and approaches to dissect and reframe the visual archives of the past through the history of photography. With varied approaches and media, their works reflect on the historical, often photographic, record and question what it means to be an American. Their rigorous practices invite conversation about truth-telling, the complexities of identity, visibility/invisibility, and the accessibility of historical narratives.
