This work is a tribute to my mother, a celebration of my wife, and an expression of deep admiration for my daughter. Above all, it is a reverent ode to the greatest force in the world—motherly love.
Throughout different stages of my life, I have been carried, uplifted, and sustained by the quiet strength of the women closest to me: my mother, my mother-in-law, my wife, and my daughter. Though often perceived as gentle or fragile, their strength has proven mightier than any obstacle, supporting me through uncertainty, shaping my growth, and helping me persevere.
While this sculpture draws on deeply personal emotions, it seeks to honor all mothers and women—their nameless greatness, selfless endurance, and quiet heroism.
As Laozi wrote in the Tao Te Ching, "Motherly love is the embodiment of the Dao—the wellspring of life and kindness." This piece, Tale of Motherhood (Golden Pregnancy), reflects not only reverence for women but also a hopeful vision for the future. Like the golden light that fills the womb in the act of creation, this work speaks to a sacred moment when new life is shaped by love and hope.
I sculpted this figure using one of the oldest and most organic materials—clay—paying homage to both Eastern and Western spiritual archetypes. The form draws from classical Greek goddesses and Eastern images of Guanyin, echoing the divinity, grace, and dignity of motherhood. The glowing orb at the center suggests not only pregnancy but also a universal light of creation, resilience, and care.
Through this work, I hope to share a timeless message: that the essence of motherhood is not only the origin of life but also a beacon of hope, compassion, and divine strength.
